It is believed that the hillock on which the temple stands was once carried downstream by the Kosi River. When it reached this spot, Lord Bhairav requested the goddess, saying, “Thi rau, baina thi rau” (Stay here, sister, stay here). The goddess accepted his request, and since then, this place has been her divine abode.At the base of the hill lies a temple dedicated to Lord Bhairav, and tradition dictates that devotees first offer prayers to Bhairav before worshipping the goddess. Bhairav Ji is specially offered Khichdi (rice and lentil dish) as a sacred offering.
