Flight Operations at Delhi Airport Gradually Improving After 36-Hour Tech Glitch

✈️ Flight Operations at Delhi Airport “Gradually Improving” After 36-Hour Tech Glitch

⚙️ Major ATC System Failure Disrupts Hundreds of Flights

New Delhi: Flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, one of India’s busiest, are gradually improving nearly 36 hours after a major technical glitch affected its Air Traffic Control (ATC) systems.

According to flight tracking website Flightradar24, a total of 129 flights (53 arrivals and 76 departures) were delayed on Saturday — a sharp decline from nearly 800 delays recorded on Friday. The average delay time was around five minutes for arrivals and 19 minutes for departures.

🖥️ Technical Snag in AMSS Disrupts Flight Planning

The disruption stemmed from a malfunction in the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS), which supports ATC’s flight planning process. In its latest update, Delhi Airport said the issue was “gradually improving”, with airline operations returning to normal.

“All concerned authorities are working diligently to minimise inconvenience. Passengers are advised to stay in touch with their airlines for the latest updates,” the airport said in a statement.

🛫 IndiGo, Other Airlines Resume Normal Operations

IndiGo Airlines, among the worst affected carriers, confirmed that operations are progressively being restored.

“The temporary AMSS outage has now been resolved, and normal operations are being progressively restored. We appreciate the efforts of airport and ATC authorities,” the airline stated.

🚨 Chaos Eases After Two Days of Disruption

The glitch first appeared on Thursday evening, when ATC officers noticed missing flight plan data. The issue led to severe congestion, with over 500 flights delayed Thursday night and nearly 800 on Friday. Some passengers were stranded for hours as departure boards showed repeated delays.

🛡️ Safety Never Compromised, Says AAI

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) assured passengers that flight safety was never compromised.

“The disruption was purely related to the pre-departure message flow and flight plan processing. There was no impact on aircraft already in the air,” AAI clarified.

With systems now stabilising, authorities expect normal operations to resume fully within a few hours, marking the end of one of the worst technical outages in recent years at the Delhi Airport.
