In one of the biggest anti-corruption crackdowns of recent times, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar of the Ropar Range, Punjab Police, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹8 lakh from Mandi Gobindgarh scrap dealer Akash Batta. The explosive case has sent shockwaves through the state’s law enforcement machinery.
How the Scam Was Exposed
The investigation began after scrap trader Akash Batta filed a complaint, alleging that DIG Bhullar was demanding ₹8 lakh to “settle” a case and had been collecting monthly bribe payments for protection.
Acting swiftly, the CBI arrested DIG Bhullar and his middleman Krishanu from Mohali. Both were produced before the CBI Special Court in Chandigarh and remanded to 14-day judicial custody.
