According to initial reports, the fire started in Coach No. 19 due to a suspected short circuit. Several traders from Ludhiana were among the passengers on board. Seeing the flames, the loco pilot applied emergency brakes, stopping the train immediately. Passengers quickly grabbed their belongings and jumped out, though a few suffered minor injuries while exiting.

Railway and police teams reached the site swiftly, and after an hour-long operation, the fire was brought under control. One woman reportedly sustained burn injuries, but there were no casualties.

Northern Railway confirmed that the fire was spotted as train 12204 Amritsar–Saharsa Garib Rath passed Bathinda station. Authorities stated that the fire was quickly extinguished, with one passenger receiving minor treatment. Railway officials also clarified that no fatalities were reported and that an investigation is underway.

Witnesses said the train had just crossed Sirhind station at 7 AM when smoke started rising from Coach No. 19. A passenger noticed it and pulled the emergency chain, triggering panic as flames became visible.

In the chaos, many passengers suffered minor injuries and some left their belongings behind in the burning coach. Railway police and fire brigade teams worked together to ensure everyone’s safety.
