Agra-Lucknow Expressway without paying toll

Agra-Lucknow Expressway Turns Toll-Free — Anger Over Diwali Bonus Sparks 10-Hour Strike

In an unusual turn of events, more than 5,000 vehicles zipped across the Agra-Lucknow Expressway without paying toll after the Fatehabad toll plaza staff went on strike from 12 a.m. Saturday night to 10 a.m. Sunday morning. The boom barriers were lifted entirely, and traffic moved freely for hours — not due to technical failure, but sheer employee outrage.

Workers Revolt Over Shocking Bonus Cut

Toll workers revealed that last Diwali they received a ₹5,000 bonus, but this year, despite soaring inflation, the company offered them just ₹1,100 — a drastic cut that sparked immediate protest. Feeling insulted, the staff collectively walked off duty and allowed all vehicles to pass toll-free.

This sudden strike led to an unofficial toll holiday, much to the surprise — and delight — of thousands of commuters.

Issue Resolved — For Now

After tense talks, company officials managed to pacify the staff by promising a 10% salary hike. The workers then resumed duty, restoring normal toll operations.
