📚 School Holiday October 29: State-Wise Closures Amid Cyclone Montha, Heavy Rain & Festive Breaks

As the post-Diwali holidays officially ended, schools across India were set to reopen on Wednesday, 29 October 2025.
However, Cyclone Montha’s impact and lingering festive holidays kept classrooms shut in several states, particularly across southern and eastern India.

While students in southern coastal regions remained home due to storm alerts, schools in northern states resumed regular classes.
Here’s a complete state-wise breakdown of school closures for October 29.


🌊 Andhra Pradesh: Schools Shut as Cyclone Montha Batters Coast

Several districts in Andhra Pradesh announced school holidays from 27 to 29 October after the IMD issued red alerts for heavy rainfall linked to Cyclone Montha.
The worst-hit areas included East Godavari, Annamayya, Kadapa, NTR, Bapatla, Krishna, and Guntur, which witnessed severe flooding and storm damage.

As the situation worsened, holidays were extended to more districts such as Bapatla, YSR Kadapa, Prakasam, Nellore, Tirupati, and Annamayya.
Over 10,000 residents were evacuated to relief camps, many of which were set up in school buildings.


🌧️ Odisha: Holidays Extended Till 30 October

In Odisha, schools, anganwadi centres, and colleges remained closed till 30 October in the southern districts most affected by the cyclone.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced closures in nine districts:

  • Malkangiri

  • Koraput

  • Rayagada

  • Ganjam

  • Gajapati

  • Kandhamal

  • Kalahandi

  • Nabarangpur

All 30 districts were kept on alert as the cyclone’s path continued to threaten nearby regions.


Telangana: Rain Forces Partial School Closures

Several districts in Telangana — including Khammam, Bhadradri, and Kothagudem — reported intense rainfall on 29 October.
Local authorities directed temporary school closures in these areas as a precautionary measure against waterlogging and lightning threats.


🪔 Bihar, Jharkhand & Uttar Pradesh: Chhath Puja Holidays Continue

The Chhath Puja festivities extended school holidays in Bihar, Jharkhand, and parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh.

  • Bihar: Schools remained closed till 29 October, reopening on 30 October.

  • Jharkhand: Many schools observed holidays for Chhath; parents awaited reopening updates via official channels.

  • Uttar Pradesh: Schools were closed on 27–28 October, with regular classes resuming from 29 October. Parents were advised to check local updates via WhatsApp groups.


🎉 West Bengal: Schools Reopen, Next Holiday on 31 October

After the Chhath Puja break (27–28 October), schools in West Bengal reopened on 29 October.
However, they will remain closed again on 31 October for Jagadhatri Puja, one of the state’s key festivals.


🏙️ Delhi: Schools Resume After Chhath Puja

In the national capital, Delhi, schools reopened on 28 October after a single-day public holiday for Chhath Puja.
Normal academic schedules resumed across all districts.


🌦️ Tamil Nadu: No Official Holiday Yet, But Rain Alert in Place

The IMD issued an orange alert for heavy rain in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Ranipet, and nearby districts.
While no official school holiday was declared as of 29 October, district administrations were authorized to suspend classes based on local rainfall intensity.

Parents were urged to stay updated through school WhatsApp groups and official websites for last-minute announcements.
