25 Hours in Shackles — Ambala’s Harjinder Deported from the U.S. After Working as a Cook in Florida"

US Deportation Shock: Ambala Man Among 50 Haryana Youths Sent Back from America After Spending ₹35 Lakh

In a major deportation drive, the United States has sent back around 50 youths from Haryana, including Harjinder Singh from Jagoli village in Ambala. The deportees also include 16 from Kaithal, 16 from Karnal, and five from Ambala.

Harjinder, who had been working as a cook in Florida, had spent nearly ₹35 lakh — his parents’ hard-earned savings — to reach America in search of a better future. But that dream ended painfully when he was caught and deported back to India in chains.

“I was shackled for almost 25 hours during the flight back to India. My legs are still swollen and in pain,” Harjinder recalled.

He said he had worked tirelessly on his family farm to collect the money needed to go abroad. Now, all his dreams have been shattered.

Harjinder has appealed to the Indian government for help, urging authorities to create better job opportunities in India so that youth do not have to leave their homes and families in search of work overseas.

“If farmers could earn a decent income here, no one would risk going abroad. Fertilizer and diesel prices are too high — farming doesn’t give enough return,” he said.

Many of those deported were caught working illegally in the U.S. under the tightened immigration policies, with reports indicating that several Indian nationals have been deported under the Trump administration’s strict visa checks.
